I thought that this blog has become my notebooks open, accessible and above all questionable, so here's a short list of most popular audio formats
- AIFF: Audio Interchange File Format, developed by Apple Inc. and based on 'Interchange File Format used for audio recordings, is not a compressed format and then heavy.
- WAV: Waveform audio format, developed by Microsoft and IBM, is very similar to the AIFF, in fact, not a compressed format but a recording format of the audio signal directly through the most common method of data storage called PCM (Power Code Modulation).
- AAC: Advanced Audio Coding, developed MPEG is a compression format that offers better sound quality than the MP3 format, but weighing less.
- ALE or ALAC Apple Lossless Audio Codec, developed by Apple Inc., lossless compression format, so no loss of information.
- FLAC: Free Lossless Audio Codec, is a free codec offering lossless compression with returns in from 30% to 50% compared to other lossless algorithms that do not exceed 20% compression.
- Mp3: MPEG-1 / 2 Audio Layer 3 audio compression provides a significant, achieving a result more or less faithful to the original.
- Ogg Vorbis: is a lossy compression algorithm based on an open source, with the same quality provides more compression than the MP3 format.
absolutely does not want to be an exhaustive list but rather just a small beginning.
